Juniper Events & Design team

Juniper Events & Design is a special event planning, design and consulting company based in Lake Placid, NY in the northern Adirondack Park. Nestled in the mountains and surrounded by clear lakes, your retreat or event will be filled with the tranquil influence of the natural beauty of the surroundings. With the expert guidance of Owner/Principal Planner, Mimi Wacholder, your special event will be effortless and everything you have dreamed or imagined.

“Juniper” is the English translation for the German word “Wacholder” which is the last name of the founder Mimi Wacholder.

Mimi Wacholder – owner/principal planner

After working in production for ABC Sports in New York City and as Public Affairs Coordinator for the Olympic Authority, in 2003 Mimi Wacholder found her niche in event planning and started Juniper Events & Design in Lake Placid, NY. Over the last decade-plus, she has coordinated events including: the premiere of The Wild Center, Tupper Lake NY (20,000 in attendance) the Opening Ceremonies of the Empire State Games, University Galas — as well as over 200 weddings, conferences and family celebrations of all types and sizes. Mimi has a BFA in Creative Communications from Emerson College.

Related Experience – Member of the US Figure Skating team in the Nancy Kerrigan/ Tonya Harding days and a principal performer in the Ice Capades. Certified Yoga Teacher.

on a personal note

I’m Mim, which is a nickname for my given name, Mimi –pronounced “Mimmie”-not “Me-Me” (like what people tell me they call their grandma or their cat). Now that we have that laid out (which is usually my first discussion with people), I can tell you that I truly love what I do!

I am honored and blessed to be included in these most intimate and celebratory days. Despite now being an outdoorsy Adirondack woman, I have a lot of NYC left in me with regard to work ethic and attention to detail. More importantly, I am sensitive to your needs. I will not run around with a clipboard waving my arms and giving out orders–who wants that? What I will do is get to know you, your needs, and your desires and do everything in my power to make your event as seamless and joyful as possible. Since I am selling myself here, I may go as far to say that I believe I have not screwed one up yet—as you will see in the praise tab, people seem to be pretty happy with their decision to hire me.

Anna Izzo - lead wedding manager

Anna is a local - born and raised - to the Adirondack Mountains. She earned her BS in Statistics and Exercise Science. Her experience in the event world began at the Whiteface Club during college summers. She honed her skills in planning and managing as a Project Manager and Producer at Workshop for two years as well. She has spent years by Mim's side learning and supporting, soaking up every opportunity to add beauty to her surroundings wherever she can. To her, weddings are some of the most beautiful moments there are in life, and having the privilege to help plan such a special day is an honor and privilege. Anna has always had an eye for detail and a sharp ear to listen, both strengths in helping your vision come to life on your special day. She is a Yoga Alliance 200 hr certified yoga instructor and strengthens her planning skills in hosting and facilitates yoga retreats as well. She absolutely loves serving her community as a wellness and lifestyle leader. Her pup, her love and her family are where her spare time is spent.

Kari Hoffman – team planner/coordinator

Kari Hoffman- Team Planner/Coordinator
Kari (pronounced Carrie) has worked most of the last decade as an Executive Producer with experience in film, story board and production. She holds a BA from SUNY Plattsburgh. She has been working weddings for the last several years as a key team member with Juniper Events and Design and her think-on-her-feet skill set is unparalleled. She brings her keen eye, attention to detail, likable personality, creativity and great sense of style to every event she coordinates. Fun fact: She has a love for fashion and soaks up her free time with her twin girl mini-me’s.
