On Valentine’s Day the day had finally arrived for Maya and Manny. A wonderful, spunky, fun, animated, spontaneous and loving couple that I have been working with for the better part of a year to make their Winter Wonderland wedding dreams come true. After considering several properties, they had chosen some “off the beaten path” options. A warm and cozy, lake-view, fireside ceremony at the “Lakehouse” – a new part of the High Peaks Resort. For the dinner and reception, the funky and casual barn-feeling post and beam second floor space of Smoke Signals for savory food, rustic decor and a fun get-down party atmosphere.
At 7:50am on Sunday morning, wedding day, my phone was ringing, then ringing again. It was Jason the owner of Smoke Signals. The -30 ambient air temps overnight had caused a pipe to burst on the second floor and completely flooded the restaurant. No wedding there that day. So began the scramble. Thanks to a lot of help from High Peaks Resort and their great management team, the flexible and adaptable staff at Smoke Signals, The florist Andrea Grout, last minute lighting from Goodguys Productions and much much more, there WAS a wedding reception and it was awesome. Just another crazy, adaptable, day at the office.
