This year was the 40th Anniversary of the Empire State Winter Games and I had the opportunity to Stage Manage the Opening Ceremonies event for the 14th year in a row. There were approximately 3600 athletes participating and over 6,000 audience members. The largest and most successful event to date. This is always a wonderful event, brining together athletes from throughout NY for the many disciplines of Winter Sports.
It feels like a NYS Olympics and the energy is contagious. As a former competitive figure skater, I competed in the very first Empire State Games and 5 subsequent years, and still have my medals and polyester track suits. Some years later, as a National Competitor, I was honored to be invited back as a guest star performer in the opening ceremonies. As a figure skating coach, I have had many a student competing in the games and they always are most excited for this event. As a mother of 2 ski jumpers and a cross-country athlete, my boys have participated and walked in the opening ceremonies for the last 5 years. To say the games are near and dear to my heart is an understatement. They are winter highlight for our vibrant Lake Placid Community. Today weddings become most touching and personal when they are a representation of the bride and groom…their visions, passions, traditions and sharing it with family and friends. Annie and Tim incorporated a Traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony where the couple shows respect and gratitude to their parents for all of the years of love and care. The bride had a traditional Chinese dress for this mid day ceremony before changing into a white gown for their lakeside Lake Ceremony. This couple enjoyed a special post-ceremony date in the Gondola boat, toasting champagne and drifting over the quiet waters of Mirror Lake where the groom trained that morning (a body of water very special to him from Ironman Lake Placid). A special local couple enjoyed a magical day with picture-perfect June weather at amazing local venues! The ceremony at beautiful St. Agnes Church, followed by reception at Intervale Base Lodge at Olympic Jumping Complex, with Good Guy Productions entertainment, Little Farmhouse Flowers, and Simply Gourmet Catering, unified this fairy-tale event. We look forward to sharing the photo album captured by Out of the Ordinary Photography. #LakePlacidWedding @ericewilsongoodguyproductions @SimplyGourmetLakePlacid @littlefarmhouseflowers @ootophoto

There was just enough snow on the ground to blanket the earth in white for this romantic early December wedding.
The event took place at the glorious St. Agnes Church and the Whiteface Lodge. Juniper Events & Design created a look for the Whiteface Lodge terrace with romantic candlelight dinner and then brightened up the Pines room with Ivory accents of drapery and furnishings and lighting to fit the bride’s vision. Stay tuned for full photo gallery of this dreamy wedding! #decemberwedding @whitefacelodge @mateovaleproductions Empire State Winter Games opening ceremony, 1980 Rink Herb Brooks Arena, Lake Placid, NY. Great night kicking off the games as the stage manager and brushing shoulders with Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul and members of 2018 U.S. Olympic Team as they have a Lake Placid send-off to PyeongChang. #WinterOlympics #TeamUSA
The sun was shining and the earth was celebrating for this high-flying wedding at the Olympic Jumping Complex, Lake Placid, NY. Beautiful views of the high peaks on this clear day so the 46er couple could look out on the mountains they love. ORDA staff pulled out all the stops with an amazing ski jumping show during cocktail hour where we dressed up the jumpers to look like the bride and groom and told the guests that they've been training all year for this big day! It was awesome and very entertaining. Seamless all around thanks to Centerplate and ORDA staff not missing a beat. #mountainwedding #adk46er @centerplate @AdksUSA
Regulations for New York State for public safety have banned a popular late night wedding activity of sky lantern release. In an effort to reduce wildfire risk, and risk to wildlife for ingesting the frame of the lantern. Additionally, private fireworks are also banned in the Town of North Elba (Lake Placid). Alternative for evening touches include: votive art, sparkler exit (not possible at some resorts), and custom designed Gobo lighting. #weddinglighting #sparklerexit
Lake Placid Lodge provided the picturesque backdrop for this gorgeous lakeside June wedding. We teamed with the talents of Trillium Florist, East Branch Organics, Due West Photography, and Cake Placid.
On Valentine’s Day the day had finally arrived for Maya and Manny. A wonderful, spunky, fun, animated, spontaneous and loving couple that I have been working with for the better part of a year to make their Winter Wonderland wedding dreams come true. After considering several properties, they had chosen some “off the beaten path” options. A warm and cozy, lake-view, fireside ceremony at the “Lakehouse” – a new part of the High Peaks Resort. For the dinner and reception, the funky and casual barn-feeling post and beam second floor space of Smoke Signals for savory food, rustic decor and a fun get-down party atmosphere. |
